Great discussion of suffering! I think both Buddhism and Christianity would also say that the reason our desires are wrong is not because they are desires, but because they are expressions of our will to control things around us, making us feel more in charge and distinct and separate than we are. Instead, we are to realize that we truly don't have control, and that the more of it we give up, the easier it is to attain enlightenment or to become one with Jesus Christ.

Desires are okay as long as they don't depend on certain circumstances, much like how you defined happiness. Life is about the journey, not the end. You can't expect everything to work out how you want it to, and you can't expect everything to turn out horribly. You have to remain suspended, constantly on-the-way to something without quite knowing what it is. And so our desires turn towards something much greater than our individualistic and materialistic lives. They become what God wants, or they become in harmony with the deepest and most meaningful part of the world, perhaps the Tao or the Way.

It's an incredibly deep and spiritual path and you've done an excellent job describing what can result from it!
